Romsey-based family theme park, Paultons Park has unveiled plans for the first phase of its major new solar project, supporting the park to increase its on-site electricity generation to 35% of its annual usage.

Groundworks have already commenced on site to deliver the £1.5 million pound project, which will see the erection of solar car port canopies covering two of the attraction’s car parks, as well as the installation of additional solar roof panels on eleven existing buildings around the park.

Paultons Park is also installing a 430KWh battery energy storage facility (BESS), enabling generated electricity to be stored and utilised during periods when solar energy is not being produced, such as at night.

Lawrence Mancey, Marketing & Technology Director at Paultons Park, said: “I am delighted to see our solar plans coming to life, which we aim to complete by February 2025.

“At present, around 8% of our electricity usage is generated on-site through solar panels. This investment unlocks the ability to raise that figure to 35% and is a significant step forward in our sustainability journey. Delivery of our solar car ports is the first major phase in a larger project to reduce our impact on the planet and enhance our green initiatives.

“As a business, we’re continually seeking ways to enhance our guest experience and business operations. Our ‘Paultons Promise’ underpins our commitment to the environment, our community, and the wellbeing of our team and guests.”

Paultons Park, which is home to UK exclusive and world first Peppa Pig World, has set an ambition to ultimately generate at least 50% of its power requirements within its Paultons Promise manifesto. A variety of sustainable initiatives are already in place at the park, including two iconic grass roofed buildings, water usage reduction technologies, and the implementation of energy efficient building materials.

Lawrence added: “Paultons Park has delighted generations of families for over 40 years, helping them create unforgettable memories here in the beautiful New Forest. We’re fully committed to playing our part in helping to preserve and protect our environment for many more generations of families to come.”

More information on the Paultons Promise commitment can be found on the Paultons Park website.
