Hampshire-based family theme park Paultons Park has boosted the Church Organ Appeal at St Mary’s Church on Romsey Road, Copythorne, providing a donation of £5,000.

The Brindley and Foster Organ at St Mary’s Church, which dates back to 1905, was damaged by water ingress through the church roof. While the roof has since been replaced thanks to a previous donation from the Park, local fundraising initiatives and successful grant applications, the church organ requires extensive reparations in order to return it to full working order.

Richard Mancey, Managing Director of Paultons Park, said: “We were delighted to be able to support St Mary’s Church Organ Appeal with a donation. Village churches are the heart of our local communities and the organ creates the chance for churchgoers to come together in song and celebration. I hope that our donation helps St Mary’s Church achieve its ambition of preserving its treasured organ for generations to come.”

The St Mary’s Church Organ Appeal needs to raise in the region of £20,000 to carry out the repairs, with the fund currently sitting at around £7,000. The fundraising committee plan to hold a series of events over the coming months in order to help achieve its goal.

Priest in Charge, John Reeve, said: “I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Paultons Park for its generous donation to the Church Organ Appeal. We are determined to restore the organ to its former glory for the church and wider community to enjoy. If you can help with fundraising activities, or are able to donate, please contact St Mary’s Church on 02380 863855.”
